So far test 3 shots, the single-point AF is right on

still not able to get use to the AF yet
set to AF zone of middle and just point and shot. most are not in focus. (if its 40D 100% of them will be un-useful for sure)... so may be the lens or my skill not there yet.
1/500 fast enough for bird? no idea ...first time or so.

Tomorrow work from home.. so hopefully Friday I will have the 70-200 and 100-400 to play outdoor. Today only has 24-105 and 85 1.8 with it.

Don't play with the bird la, try simple focus test first.  Shoot static objects to check if getting consistent AF accuracy.    More and more ppl having their 7D returned.

yeah, surprising many post "need to have Canon service their AF problem" .
I test 3 shots at the night I got it... and next morning at office. center points are very fast, the side on sometimes "searching" and can't focus (I use left point only and focus my shoe under table....LOL. too much to ask? )
But the focus look right on on LCD.

One thing about 40D is on LCD, it seems okay but I always get a surprise (the bad one) once I back on computer and found it out of focus.

Same thing still in 7D (during those birds test). But I will give it as "I have not get use to this/ too high hope for a P&S bird"

One thing mention is a few review site is the diffraction factor.

People calculate on 7D, you may see a softer image at f/7
