I am considering buy a 9700, wonder 9700k will be a better choice or not, I never overclock, if overclock a CPU , it will always at the overclock speed even in idle state?

or I need to use it's overclock profile every time I play games?

    Depends on game, but in general, if your overclock is higher than max. boost clock of your cpu, you will benefit from the extra clock. If your game favor high clock speed, then benefit will be noticeable.

9700k have higher base clock and boost clock which should be better choice no matter you will overclock or not.

In my situation, cpu will auto-adjust clock speed and power usage in idle, don't if other motherboard and overclock config. will affect that.
