4790k Delid
Core VID 1.056V
Cache VID 1.144V
Burning AIDA64 (CPU,FPU,cache, system memory)
Core 1.3V @ 4.9GHz, Cache 1.3V @4.4GHz (tried 4.5Ghz cache, hanged after 30 mins of AIDA64)
Max temp around 85C when burning AIDA64
Max temp around 75C when exporting with Lightroom (100% loading)
So my conclusion is, if you want to overclock above 4.7GHz rock stable even with AVX on, better go with water cooling.
Air Cooling is hard to achieve rock stable AVX on (LinX/prime95) with reasonable temp (90 or below) even with delid CPU.
Notice not many software use AVX. Although Lightroom does use AVX, but temp is not like LinX or prime95 (75C vs over 100c).
Maybe rendering video using AVX will push CPU to 100C?
So is LinX/Prime95 overkill for stress test? I think it depends on what software you use and how mission critical your tasks are. |
