Do you mean the price is for "Trimmed models"? In 24/7 models, 1TB means at least HKD 672 (Jxmbo). If for 2TB, I think a bit overpriced, which means you have to select Bigger. If you really need 2TB 24/7, You will rely on Toshiba MG series as MG series is  cheap right now, just HKD 800.

Of course, Bigger the "cheaper" if for 24/7 models, You should get 4TB (If you care brand as NM is relatively smoother than others) or 6TB (TOSHIBA ). Both priced at 16 hundred or something.  I think I no longer take any cheap models as cheap things usually make worse, It really is.  Of course, I still need to know how to tune WD BLUE for emergency as people think 100HKD 1TB should do.

There is one thing which I need to say, 24/7 model, the average price for 1TB is between 260 (Toshiba 4TB MG series)-480 (HGST 10TB PMR HE series with T13 sanitize options) depending on your needs such as physical space allocation, working environment and etc.

Unfortunately, Because of working nature, 2TB+ is cheaper than within 2TB. These people use somehow to discourage you to use old legacy system except 2.5".

Have to stick to 2TB due to still running XPSP3, so 3+TB is a no-go

These 2TBs are for data storage inside desktop, and I need absolute data integrity (besides making regular backups)

Never tried 東芝 and have no plans to do so, due to its iffy HDD track record

What  I am sure is, These people find somehow to discourage you to use windows xp directly, I have some ideas when dealing with the purchase issues.

The minimum requirement is already Windows 7 or Linux 2.6.X.X right now. Because of the cost and the ability, I shall do one thing in home if XP is still important. Base will be Linux 4.0+ powered, with Virtual PC software installed, Doing something like old configurations like 2TB, 2TB, 2TB, 2TB (Of course, the base is with new, robust, reliable methods).

I think you should plan how to phase out old storage system.

Who told you EPS don't have service charge? The shop don't charge you for EPS service charge doesn't mean that the charge don't  exist.

Right. The price of 3C includes EPS service charge. The price at Jumbo is cash only.

Every time I go to Jumbo or SE, I have to withdraw cash at a nearby ATM first because I usually carry around less than $1,000 cash with me. I always buy 2 or more HDDs each time so I have to pay at least $1,xxx cash. The only other places I pay cash are shops that sell fish balls or Chinese herbal tea.
I saw a guy who bought a NAS and 4 WD RE HDDs and he paid $6,xxx or $7,xxx cash.
