1.  Automation -- shell script is better (powerful) than Windows Batch file,
2.  Networking -- Routing and firewall control are better than windows.
3.  Remote Control others linux or windows server become easily (you can use rdesktop/ vncviewer/ ssh ...)
4.  If your system can run on compiz fusion environment, it is better than windows 7 (I think).

儘管我們知道*NIX強過WINDOWS好多倍, 但因為圖像傳播的速度快過文字好多,加上開始前準備工作多過WINDOWS很多. 故LINUX不太普及,即使有部份的版本如OPENSUSE解決大多數管理問題也好.

LINUX不是只為服務而存在, 它為計算而存在. 大部分複雜問題,包括BITCOIN, 採用*NIX解決多過用WINDOWS. 不是單單成本. 主要原因是按需裝載, 不像WINDOWS多好多魚. 我自己準備一個樣版, 樣版只完成了一半. 因風暴的關係, 可能要等到星期二才可以作示範.

該不是簡單地說, 一個成功介面在於圖像是否符合最基本要求,另外使用習慣. 我不理會用甚麼介面, KDE有時更成功過GNOME好多, 之後XWIN以至其他有KDE的影子, GNOME抄MAC的.  就是, 大多數人習慣了WINDOWS的操作方式. 若以近似方式的話,配合一些程式如YAST, 在一般情況下是可以快過文字的. 不過, 若果要更準確地做的話, 你只可以用文字解決.

我相信, LINUX不太普及的原因,就是選項太多(你知道有777事件嗎? 該是其中一個有名案例), 說明不夠簡潔,直接.

唉,做好咗先比人用/support啦 ~ 免費野可免則免,比多d時間人做os上面D野把啦,嚟嚟去又係試嚟去d bug,多舊魚.compatibility?唔同linux版本好似但又唔喺一樣,死得啦,文獻又差過人,up一大輪野,os只其中一件工具,佢仲要係散收收,安裝經常百冇...跟本喺IT巨頭d白老鼠要搵真人同佢試野/包底.靠community真係咁有組織?.open source?一般中小企有幾可要改os source再recompile咁巴閉,講就好聽
唔通d客/end user同你研究os,kernel,運算
有bug就話免費野喺咁架啦,冇vendor要插都冇仇報
喺d on9老細至會聽到免費直撲入去,因為唔喺佢做

Linux/Unix is very popular actually but they are totally different market and being used in different area.
You won't use Linux for typical "Desktop applications" (even though you can), that just like people won't use Windows for server (even though you can)

As not much people in HK has the need for a robust or reliable server running all the time, hence not much people familiar with Linux. (sadly most companies may just look at Linux as a cost saving option rather than its strength)
And before you can use Linux well, one has to put the time and effort for studying the Shell. Most of us just get used to point and click, obviously even harder to play around in Linux.

But the command line in Linux/Unix provides far much more flexibility than Windows interface, especially for Server operation. (I always hate debug the windows front end, but far more enjoying to debug in server side. With certain level of shell skills, you can have so many tools or even combining the tools to create what you need. Bash + awk + sed is already enough for doing many amazing thing.)
