exactly.  photography isnt math, it isnt about memorization or reciting it is about personal expression, style and vision.

pretty much once an understanding of exposure - the relationship between shutter, aperture, iso - is obtained it is up to one's imagination on what is possible there after.  Often the more quantitative analysis on the subject of art often only follows the creation of the artwork itself.  For example, Da Vinci probably didn't think of how to create the perfect mona lisa before he painted it following whatever vision he had in his head at that time, it is often after the fact that people after him tries to provide analytical quantitative evidence on why the piece of art works, was it really what Da Vinci intended or conciously planned out to do before hand? probably not, to be an inventor you need yo have vision and make things work with it than vice versa...
