GCN should be way less dependent on drivers, because they don't need to pack instructions into VLIW with GCN, and they don't need instruction re-ordering.

GCN should improve AMD's image in GPGPU area. It will be more programmable compare to VLIW.

Easier to program on it, not more programmable.
The pipeline is still the same when you use it through APIs like DirectX/OpenGL.
