Maybe the SD card's contacts get dirty?
Clean them and try again
If you have other card readers do try them out also
For the record I've experienced similar problem long time ago but was only temporary

I mean, those golden strips on the back of the SD card, are they dirty or worn out?
Clean them first and see if things improve
You really don't want to go to the data recovery route, until you run out of all options
