situation varies, but once the encryption chip interface was lost or malfunctioned, nothing could be retrieved from the HDD

剩係知 ｃertain generic HP branded ones have encryption
Honestly, what's the point for these internal encryption? It's no use (or perhaps for the absent-minded user) and only gives more trouble
Any user who is aware of his/her data's privacy would be very careful with handling such HDD, and thus no encryption should be necessary in these external HDD products
