Yes, you may use original external USB HDD (not docking), and remove the internal HDD.
You may also change the Video Output Format to 1080i/50.

Could be other factors like power source problem, chipset problem, motherboard problem etc.
Sending it in for full checkup is recommended

Also try using a new power supply first. It's hard to say which components have aged - there are several possibilities.

For the record I've never had a problem with the PSUs ie. AC adapter
Instead it is the power supply module INSIDE the box which has caused various problems and subsequently needs replacement

早幾日拆開睇，想拔走兩個heatsink睇吓D散熱膏。整個底板反轉個兩粒膠可難頂出，最後放棄。裝番開机只見Magic TV字，记起無插個開關個插。奇在面板個字的电由hdmi來？

换底板 depends on a lot of luck
If doing so thru official (PM) channels then it's not possible, since such part is probably discontinued
Also PM does not repair MBs at capacitor level
There may be some luck 换底板 or even repair 底板 at independent repair places at New Capital 2/F...

我部 7000D-mini 換過。
某日開機發現無畫面；VFD只顯示〝MagicTV〞。
火牛係新（原裝的死了），開關掣係新，所以只好去科學園。
去到等了一小時左右就被告知死底板。要千幾蚊換過。
到取機時我問：究竟底板死了什麼？點解好地地咁樣死？如何避免？
全部沒有答案提供。
另外，客戶服務（reception）態度好差。
我以五百蚊紙付千幾蚊換底板費用時竟然黑口黑面質問點解要找續。

reception 態度差早已有聽聞，不過我幾年前上過去又唔覺有咩野，只係cool咗啲囉。幾年前嗰個應該係同一個，因為當其時已有人投訴佢態度差。

Confirm it is an internal power problem. Measured the SATA power plug no volt.

It is designed to support live TV operations without any HDD attached. Absence of HDD will cause a warning to be shown at boot time.
A HDD has to be present for recording, either internal or external.
